To write the study, the author analysed more than seventy colophons preserved in manuscripts from the collections of libraries in Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine. The earliest colophon is contained in the “Lviv Gospel completed (full) aprakos” 1477, and the latest – the “Kotsuriv Gospel” 1600. The study of the text’s structure showed that these colophons belonged to six types with two subtypes, the classifying feature of which was the initial formula. A detailed analysis of the content of each colophon showed that the main components were the recording of the book’s title, the name of its copyist, its origin, time and place of publication, and mention of the customer or buyer. The analysis of the colophons illustrated the phenomenon of authorial statements of scribes, which consisted of explaining the motives of their work, an idea of their mission, instructions to readers, or a request to correct errors in the text. In the colophons 1594 and 1595 by Stepan Popovych, who was from Trushevychi village, the inadmissibility of stealing codices with an appeal to the Holy Scriptures, in particular the passage Hbr 10,31 with its author’s interpretation, was emphasised quite extensively.
Stanislav Voloshchenko Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 - w pełni pozostają przy autorze. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/deed.pl 2024-06-30 2024-06-30 18 1 13 73 10.33077/uw.25448730.zbkh.2024.843 Attribution of Fragments of the 16th–18th Centuries’ Early Printed Books from the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine: Informational Potential and Practical Experience https://bookhistory.uw.edu.pl/index.php/zbadannadksiazka/article/view/844
The publication describes various cases of attributing fragments of editions from the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine. The attribution included the identification of extracts from the text, authentication of sheets used as flyleaves, and waste paper sheets. It is shown in the examples that the binding shops at the printing houses of Ostroh, Lviv, Kyiv, and Chernihiv actively used waste paper. The article describes cases when the attribution of editions assembled from fragments, the Vilnius Gospel in particular, became the reason for a scientific study and catalogue of the Gospels of 1575–1644 in the library collection. The attribution of fragments of several different editions allowed us to identify unknown printing variants, and to form the complete Gospel text.

Printed engravings inserted into books also provide interesting material for further research. The practice of studying them has shown that sometimes they are previously unknown artistic monuments by famous engravers, for example, Hryhorii Levytskyi and Ivan Myhura. The usage of various methods of work, such as the study of the history of engravings, a comprehensive analysis of their state of preservation, the establishment of the history of the copies’ use, and the study of paper filigrees, prove that book engravings were also printed for independent distribution. In particular, we are referring to images of evangelists associated with the names of Petro Mstyslavets and Pamva Berinda. The study of printed inserts of engravings, illustrations, and texts into manuscript codices is an interesting and promising area of research
Nataliia Bondar Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 - w pełni pozostają przy autorze. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/deed.pl 2024-06-30 2024-06-30 18 1 75 101 10.33077/uw.25448730.zbkh.2024.844 Fragments of the Ukrainian Book Collections in the Ossolineum’s Holdings of Early Printed Books in Wrocław https://bookhistory.uw.edu.pl/index.php/zbadannadksiazka/article/view/845
The article describes fragments of book collections from five Ukrainian institutions – the Shevchenko Scientific Society, the “Studion” in Lviv, “Ridna Shkola” Ukrainian Pedagogical Society, the National Museum in Lviv, and the Greek Catholic Chapter in Przemyśl – which are currently housed in the Early Printed Books Department at the Ossolineum in Wrocław. In addition to the list of books from these collections, the publication provides a brief overview of their history and fortunes after World War II and the circumstances under which these books found their way to the collection of the Ossoliński National Institute in Wrocław.
Olga Tkachuk Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 - w pełni pozostają przy autorze. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/deed.pl 2024-06-30 2024-06-30 18 1 103 129 10.33077/uw.25448730.zbkh.2024.845 Structure and decoration of the Manuscript “Vinets Khrystov” by Antonii Radyvylovskyi from the Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine https://bookhistory.uw.edu.pl/index.php/zbadannadksiazka/article/view/846
The paper presents the Cyrillic XVII-century manuscript “Vinets Khrystov”, comprising Baroque sermons by the prominent Ukrainian preacher Antonii Radyvylovskyi. Special attention is paid to the decorative elements employed for illuminating and structuring the content of the codex, which serves as the model for the namesake edition published in Kyiv in 1688. The study demonstrates that the embellishments of “Vinets” are an integral part of the manuscript, often correlating with its textual part. Initials, headpieces, and tailpieces, as well as the title composition in “Vinets Khrystov”, can be employed to purely decorate and meaningfully illustrate the monument.
Olha Maksymchuk Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 - w pełni pozostają przy autorze. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/deed.pl 2024-06-30 2024-06-30 18 1 131 147 10.33077/uw.25448730.zbkh.2024.846 The Cyrillic Early Printed Books of Univ and Pochaiv: Peculiarities of Editions, Experience of Scientific Cataloguing https://bookhistory.uw.edu.pl/index.php/zbadannadksiazka/article/view/847
The article deals with the Cyrillic early printed books and one-sheet prints of printing houses of Univ and Pochaiv monasteries (the middle of 17th–18th centuries) from the depository of V. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine, which were described for the scientific catalogues. During the copy-by-copy research of Univ and Pochaiv early printed books, many one-sheet editions and editions without titles and source data were discovered, catalogued for the first time, and included in the chronology of the Ukrainian Cyrillic printing. All findings are displayed in the article. Letter by Varlaam Sheptyckyi and counterfeit Univ editions of Euchologions are among them. Univ and Pochaiv publications form an important part of Ukraine’s historical and cultural heritage.
Nataliia Zabolotna Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 - w pełni pozostają przy autorze. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/deed.pl 2024-06-30 2024-06-30 18 1 149 165 10.33077/uw.25448730.zbkh.2024.847 Zamość Style Unification: Liturgicon and Euchologion in the Basilian Monasteries of the Lviv Eparchy in Second Half of the 18th Century https://bookhistory.uw.edu.pl/index.php/zbadannadksiazka/article/view/848
The paper studies the problem of the unification of the liturgical books in the Basilian monasteries of the Lviv eparchy in the second half of the 18th century. Research concentrates on the problem of Zamość council resolution implementation by analyzing the “church books” in the monasteries of Basilians. Investigating the “book lists” from inventory descriptions and protocols of visitations allows to trace changes in the monasteries concerning the “church books” as it was fixed in the documents, a major part of which used for this research are from the Lviv archives. Among the main indicators of a certain liturgical tradition are the texts of the Liturgicon and the Euchologion. In the second half of the 18th century, the presence of Univ and Pochaiv Liturgicon and Euchologion was selective since we do not have data for all decades for all monasteries. At the same time, such an analysis allows tracing a clear tendency – the full-fledged unification of liturgical literature in Basilian monasteries can be noted at the start of the 1760s.
Ivan Almes Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 - w pełni pozostają przy autorze. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/deed.pl 2024-06-30 2024-06-30 18 1 167 177 10.33077/uw.25448730.zbkh.2024.848 “Hettman von Klein Reussen”: the image of Kyrylo Rozumovsky in the mid-eighteenth-century early printed books and engravings from the Razumovskys’ family collection https://bookhistory.uw.edu.pl/index.php/zbadannadksiazka/article/view/849
The article examines the early printed panegyric Philosophia Aristotelica by Mykhail Kozachynsky (1745) and the engraved portraits of the Ukrainian hetman Kyrylo Rozumovsky by Johann Christian Gottfried Fritzsch (1750) and Georg Friedrich Schmidt (1762). These items belong to the collection of books and memorabilia owned by the Razumovsky noble family, specifically their Razumovskiana. The narrative and visual sources are treated through the prism of their commemorative significance and relevance for studying the early modern history of Ukraine.
Svitlana Potapenko Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 - w pełni pozostają przy autorze. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/deed.pl 2024-06-30 2024-06-30 18 1 179 205 10.33077/uw.25448730.zbkh.2024.849 Spis treści https://bookhistory.uw.edu.pl/index.php/zbadannadksiazka/article/view/859 Michał Krupa Prawa autorskie (c) 2024 Michał Krupa https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0 2024-06-30 2024-06-30 18 1
