The first description of the Jesuits establishment in Polish language

Abstract

The Society of Jesus was established in 1540 in Rome by the pope Paul the 3rd; it enlarged intellectual activity into other countries over time. Invited by the bishops from Braniewo, the Jesuits located also at the Polish territory (1565). The author is looking for the first in Polish language description of the history of the Jesuits establishment. He focuses on the works of Mikołaj Łęczycki, perceived as the very first Pole analysing history of the Society of Jesus, but in Latin, while analysis of publications of Jakub Wujek SJ shows, that in his work Dialysis. To iest Rozwiązanie albo rozebranie Asserciy… (1580) the first descirption in Polish of the Society of Jesus establishment was included. This work contributed to dissemination of basic information about the Jesuits in Poland in a national language.
