Abstract

Assuming that development of special press for a specific group of recipients from the same profession confirms that such a group is conscious about its social role, the author presents a few selected weekly journals focusing on publishing and bookselling less on libraries, from the 19th-21st centuries. These are: the German “Börsenblatt für den Deutschen Buchhandel” published from the year 1834, British “The Bookseller” (since 1858), American “The Publishers Weekly” (1872), Russian “Книжное Oбозрение” (1966) and French “Livres Hebdo” (1979). He states that these journals have a rich history, are the most cited titles in this branch nowadays, have an international influence, and - obviously - support effectively everyday work of book professionals.
