Abstract

The collection of old prints in the Voivodeship Public Library (VPL) in Piotrków Trybunalski comes from the Polish Tourism and Sightseeing Society (PTSS), an organisation continuing traditions of the Piotrków Sightseeing Society (PSS), established in 1908. The PTSS old prints were found in the VPL together with other publications (3500 volumes in total) after the world war II, in 1968. They have different provenance, as the PSS (PTSS after the war) book collection was developed from numerous gifts. It includes prints from the PTSS own collection, from the collection of the numismatist and archaeologist Kazimierz Stronczyński (1809-1896), from the pre-war library of the BolesławChrobry Gymnasium in Piotrków, from the book collection of Edmund Stawiski from Podłężyce (1813-1890), entrepreneur, economist and publicist, and (among others) from the book collection of the renowned Warsaw expert (varsavianist) WładysławKorotyński (1866-1924), and duplicate copies from the Ossolineum in Lvov. In total 179 of old prints came from 63 sources, as proved by the Author’s provenance studies on the set of 411 prints published up to 1830, and being maintained in the VPL.
