The Documentation of Historical Book Collections Unit in the Special Collections Department of the National Library

Abstract

The Polish Society for Book Studies in the year 1990 presented initiative of establishing an institutional unit involved in localisation and registering of dispersed or displaced historical book collections. In October 1990 the Documentation of Historical Book Collection Unit was established within the National Library structure. The article presents origins and tasks of the Unit, its research and registration activities and the results, as well as documentation plans. The scheme of a heading for registration of book collections was offered in the Handbook of Polish historical book collections and those developed within Polish territory until 1950 being developed.
