The article presents briefly the history of Zalusciana in the University of Warsaw Library. It also describes general scheme of organisation and classification of the collection, as defined by Józef Andrzej Załuski. Moreover, the author follows a relation between Załuski’s theoretical concepts and his practical activity as a librarian. Therefore, she reconstructs reasoning of this great bibliophile, and deciphers a system of his signs left in the books, illegible in other context. The author, referring to provenance studies realised in the University of Warsaw Library, determines meaning of many symbols used by Załuski. It makes other librarians working on this collection able to recognize and cataloguing of books.
