The author discusses the content concerning the book, reading, and libraries published in the "Monitor" journal in the years 1765-1785. He proves that these topics were discussed in the journal, corresponding with general European Enlightenment trends, as well as the ideas coming directly from Stanisław August Poniatowski the king, and his intellectual and cultural surroundings (e.g. Ignacy Krasicki, Franciszek Bohomolec, Adam Kazimierz Czartoryski or Wawrzyniec Mitzler de Kolof". The "Monitor" promoted for instance comprehensive reading, collecting, and developing libraries and usage of their resources.
