Contributions to the history of the Załuski Library in Warsaw and its founders

Abstract

The article aims to complement the known facts about the Załuski brothers and their library, taken from the sources unknown so far or known only partially, or even known but not explored in total. The author refers to the following sources: 1) her pre-war presentation concerning the Załuski foundation; 2) copies of the letters of Andrzej Załuski, stored in the Central Archives of Historical Records (Crown Metrics). Information was systemized according to the following topics: the initiative of establishing a public library in Warsaw; localisation of the library and its buildings; A.S. Załuski will of 1758; A.S. Załuski attitude towards his brother Józef.
