Abstract

The author presents the library activity of Polska Macierz Szkolna [the Polish Educational Society] - one of the most important educational institutions in the Kingdom of Poland. The article refers to the materials from the Archive of New Records, including the set of the Polish Educational Society, consisting of (among others): prints, publications, press clippings for the years 1917-1933, reports of the Management Board and the circles, lists of libraries in Warsaw, rules, curricula of courses for the librarians, minutes written after the outbreak of World War II. The author referred also to the texts published in the "Polska Macierz Szkolna" journal, issued in the years 1917-1939, and literature. While discussing the library activity of the Polish Educational Society, she divided the material into two stages. The first one - since the establishment of the organisation, through its secret activity in the years 1906-1916, and the second - from the resumptions of its open activity in 1916 up to liquidation by the Nazi occupiers.
