Abstract

The author presents the history of the collection of the Ostrowski family, Rawicz coat of arms, located in Ujazd. Its founder was Tomasz Ostrowski (1735-1817), a politician, economic reformer, minister of treasure, colonel of the Polish army, the Chair of the Senate of the Kingdom of Poland, and the Marshal of the Parliament of the Duchy of Warsaw. The collection he gathered consisted of books on economy, farming, religion (prayer books, catechisms, apologetic literature), sets of parliamentary acts, constitutions, and literature related to his political and social activity. The author recaptured the library's history - including its transfer to Tomaszów, abandonment (along with all the property after the November Rising, auction on the order of the Government Commission of the Masovia Voivodeship. He also presented how the representatives of the family had been completing their libraries and tried to regain and integrate the remains of the library from Ujazd. Archival materials and provenance marks were used in this study.
