Abstract

This article deals with the culture of the book in the 14th and 15th century art in Małopolska. It is a methodological attempt the aim of which is to search for a relation between late Middle Ages expansion of the written text and the art of this period. The source is a catalogue consisting of descriptions of works of art dealing with the book, the writing, as well as printing materials and tools. On this basis on attempt was made to answer questions concerning: the promotion of patterns of the culture of the book in the 14th and 15th centuries; the existence and the repetitiveness of iconographic motives under research; the occurence of the figures of people accompaniled by the book, the role of writing in the works of art.
