Abstract

Article is an attempt at assessment of rare-books research applications of one of standard bibliographic data-base management programmes- Pro-Cite 1.4 software released in 1988. A first criterion of its usefullnes in organization of bibliographies and catalogues of antiquarian materials is its user-friendliness.

It relieves a historian from the ardous and unavoidably trial-and-error efforts to master computer science. Technical difficulties thus disappeare, and troublesome as well as expensive assistance of computer consultant is not necessary. A second criterion is Pro-Cite's adaptibility for cataloguing of antiquarian materials. We can easily create even most complicated forms for entering of data, and print them according to any set of bibliographic rules at any level. A third criterion is a great searchability of Pro-Cite's bibliographic data-bases. Using them we can compile subject lists of our choice, sort them appropriately, and supplement them with relevant indexes.
