Abstract

The article concerns Germanica printed from the 15th century until 1900, stored in the University of Warsaw Library. It presents data from the beginning of the 90s. of the 20th century. The author discusses the history of the collection since the library's origin in 1817, with the most valuable sets of German provenance (a.o. old prints from The Hessian Grand Ducal Library of the Princes of Hessen-Darmstadt - approx. 4000 prints from the 16th-19th centuries); descriptions of the collection in both chronological and systematic aspects: incunabula and prints from the 16th century, prints from the 17th-18th centuries, journals, music, graphic, and map collections. The article is completed with the annex "Card catalogues of the University of Warsaw Library", and the list "Sources and literature for the UWL history", consisting of literature presenting the library as a whole only, with no texts concerning individual collections, sets, or its parts.
