Abstract

The article describes the collection of photo portraits of the outstanding figures of Polish culture made by the photographer, Benedykt Jerzy Dorys (1901-1990). A part of this collection is stored by the Institute of the Arts, the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw (8370 negatives), but the text focuses on the other one, donated to the Iconographic Department of the National Library of Poland in Warsaw. It consists of approx. 7500 photographs - 2/3 of this collection includes photo portraits of the Polish artists, most of them from the post-war period (until 1979). The list of the figures is enclosed as "The people of culture as imaged by Benedykt Jerzy Dorys". There is also the annex with examples of catalogue descriptions of B.J. Dorys' legacy stored in the National Library of Poland.
