Abstract

The IVth Forum of Polskie Towarzystwo Bibliologiczne [the Polish Bibliological Society – PBS] "Protection of the European and national written heritage" took place on December 2, 1997, participated by Polish and Ukrainian libraries. During this meeting, J. Szocki discussed cooperation between Polish and Ukrainian book researchers from Cracow and Lviv. It started during the scientific conference concerning books, journals, and libraries in the 19th-20th centuries, which took place on November 3-4, 1994, organized by the Section of Library and Information Science, the Higher Pedagogical School in Cracow. The conference turned into a regular event, with the following publications in the series edited by Jerzy Jarowiecki, and titled "Cracow - Lviv: books, journals, libraries of the 19th and 20th centuries". The author underlines that only original articles have been published in the following volumes, discussing new topics, and broadening the book knowledge in regard of such research areas as Lviv, Eastern Galicia, and the Vilnius region. It is the result of cooperation and research of Polish, Ukrainian, and Belarusian scholars, whose conclusions "are acceptable despite historical, sometimes ideological or political differences".
