The list of court books from Suraż from the year 1647 (land of Suraż «inscriptionum» and «decretorum»)

Abstract

The article includes edition of the list of court books from Suraż, from the year 1647. The edition is preceded by introduction, where the author describes briefly the Podlaskievoivodeship, established in the year 1569. A part of it was the Bielsko region, where land courts were functioning as early as in the 16^thcentury, in two cities: Brańsk and Suraż. The list published in this article comes from the land chancellery in Suraż, organised – in the Author’s opinion – approximately in 1530. The list is preserved in the form of excerpt prepared at the turnout of the 18^th and 19^th centuries for Ignacy Kapica Milewski. His critical edition is therefore based on the excerpt, not original files. After introduction, the author presents The list of land court books of Suraż, complemented with The directory of places. The article is a following part of the author’s cycle consisting of editions of the lists of land court books in a form of excerpts prepared for I.K. Milewski.
