Abstract

The author analyses the Diary of the Jesuit Jan Wielewicki (approx.. 1566-1639), consisted of a few volumes written in common Latin, titled Historici diarii domus professae Societatis Iesu Cracoviensis, and concerning the years 1579-1639. This work presented the history of the Jesuits’ house in Cracow at the background of the history of Poland. Another topic of this article is the Chronicle of the Jesuits’ house in Poznań, written down as a codex titled Acta et Historia Collegii Posnaniensis Societatis Iesu and concerning the years 1574-1606. This work described each day of the Jesuits’ community in Poznań, without references to any important events in Poland and abroad. Analyzing both texts, the author states that the most reliable source for studying the history of the Jesuits in Poland is their correspondence preserved e.g. in the Roman Jesuit Archives. Documents included in such works as the Chronicle seem to be censored by the Order.
