Abstract

The author first presents the role of education among the nobility in the 16th century and how noble children were educated – in a parish school, a noble mansion, the Cracow Academy, Jesuit and Protestant colleges, foreign universities. Next, she analyses the situation, social position, workshop, remuneration, and level of the teachers working in schools of different types – parish, cathedral, collegiate, Jesuit and Protestant colleges, and private tutors, whose services were sought by political elites of that time.
