Abstract

The article presents people distinguished for library organisation in Poland, who contributed to the development of cataloguing rules for the libraries, beginning from the renaissance: Onufry Kopczyński (1735-1817); Joachim Lelewel (1786-1861), Stanisław Dunin-Borkowski (1782-1850), Franciszek Maksymilian Sobieszczański (1814-1878), Włodzimierz Górski (approx. 1824-1878), Karol Estreicher (senior, 1827-1908), Rudolf Kotula (1875-1940), Marian Łodyński (1884-1972), and obviously Józef Grycz (1890-1954), the author of Przepisy katalogowania w bibliotekach polskich. I Alfabetyczny katalog druków (Warszawa 1934) (Cataloguing rules in Polish libraries. I. Alphabetical catalogue of prints), the first official Polish cataloging instruction, accepted by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Public Education as binding for libraries in Poland.
