Abstract

The article presents an analysis of Polish publications from the years 1939-1949 concerning losses of Polish libraries during World War II. The literature consists of different texts on war history of research, public, school and special libraries in national, regional and local perspective. The author concludes that general evaluation of these publications has to be positive, as in extreme conditions related to the German occupation, invasion of the Soviet army, and establishment of communist authorities in the country, the librarians managed to document, describe and inform the public in the years 1939-1949 about the history of Polish libraries, referring to the available sources.
