Abstract

The article presents briefly the book collection of the Krzemieniec Lyceum. The books were collected through purchase, donations, and taking over from the closed schools in the Volyn guberniya. The most numerous and most interesting are for example Collectio Jablonoviana, Collectio Moszyński, Collectio Mikoszewski, Collectio Cremencensis Societatis Jesus, Collectio librorum Kunegundae Czacka, Collectio Nova, the libraries of Franciszek Scheidt and Jan Niepomucen Kalasanty Lernt, and the District School Library in Poczajów. The book acquisition was closely related to the curriculum, the Lyceum indicated funds for current purchase and binding of books and journals on an annual basis. The library attracted the attention of its contemporaries not only with the diversity of the collections, comparable to many university libraries but also with good organisation. Qualified staff was employed to care for the collections, thus the library had catalogues.
