The library of the nobility and gentry club at Piotrków

Abstract

The Resursa gentry club in Piotrków and its library belonged to the characteristics phenomena of the time of gradual standardisation of life after the November Uprising collapse. These kind of clubs were the only acceptable form of Polish societies, and their statutes allowed the development of book and journal collections for the members' use. The author attempts to reconstruct the history, rules of functioning, and structure of the book collection of this institution.
