Abstract

The role of Hilary Szembek is presented in the article, from the perspective of a few representative texts on economy published in the "Zbiór potrzebniejszych wiadomości" [the Collection of needed news], i.e. one of the first Polish encyclopaedias, developed by Ignacy Krasicki. Szembek, upon Krasicki request, wrote economic entries that exceeded in size and content the needs of this two-volume publication.
