Abstract

The author states that book collections are not only sets of books, but individual entities of new quality. Studying book collections is not only describing the works they consist of, but also a reflection on the circumstances of their being together. The author underlines that currently documentation of the collections is as much important as their gathering. Much more of the book collections can be documented than preserved. Therefore it is essential to develop adequate methods and to document them. Developing the rules of such documentation of the book collection as a whole is of primary importance.
