Abstract

The archive of historian and journalist Robert Bielecki (1939–1998) has been stored in the Manuscripts Department of the University Library in Warsaw since 1998. Since the archives were deposited in the institution’s collection, they have been used, but their complete cataloguing has only recently been done. It is divided into two main parts corresponding to R. Bielecki’s principal scientific interests: papers related to the Polish struggles for independence in the 19th century and the Great Emigration to France, and documents concerning the Warsaw Uprising. The most valuable part of the working materials are source excerpts from Polish and French libraries and archives, as well as personal files created by R. Bielecki, including files on soldiers who participated in the November Uprising and soldiers who died in the Warsaw Uprising. The scientific legacy is supplemented by materials from other individuals and institutions collected by Bielecki.
