Journal's mission and aims

The "Studies into the History of the Book and Book Collections" quarterly (an annual until 2019) is the Polish research journal concerning book studies, edited by the Department of the Book and Media History, Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies, the University of Warsaw since 2006 (a successor of the "Studies into the Polish Historical Collections" published since 1975).

The periodical publishes research outcomes focusing on the book culture in a historical context. It offers a forum for presenting and exchange research ideas and output for both Polish and foreign experts in book studies, to deliver current achievements, initiatives and trends in studies into the book culture worldwide.

Besides original articles, it publishes also source materials, review articles of Polish and foreign specialist publications, and a research chronicle. Special volumes focusing on selected research topics have been published since 2017.

All articles are freely available under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license.

The Editorial Board does not charge for accepting articles for publication nor pay any fees.

 

FINANCING

The journal has received a grant from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education (agreement No 653/P-DUN/2019) for the popularisation of science.

Foreign reviewers' participation in the reviewing process. Development of the English version of the journal. The digitalisation of archival volumes (open access). Implementation and maintenance of a digital editing platform.

 

The journal was funded in 2023 under Measure I.2.1 Improving Publication Capacity - Enhancing the International Outreach of UW Journals and I.2.2 Enhancing Regional Impact on Science through High Quality Dissemination of Results - Journals implemented under the University of Warsaw's Excellence Initiative - Research Universities Program.

  • increasing the number of publications in the top periodicals in the world on the results of research by scientists from the University of Warsaw;
  • expanding the international reach of the periodicals published by UW, thereby increasing their impact on the scientific world;
  • improving the quality of publications which are promoting research results;
  • improving the reputation of the periodicals published by UW (indexed in databases, with high indices);
  • implementing solutions that facilitate cooperation with reviewers.
