Information for the Authors

To submit an article and to obtain access – login and password, send an e-mail to the editorial office at bookhistory@uw.edu.pl.

  • Please send only original, unpublished manuscripts. 
  • Texts should not exceed 40,000 characters including spaces (= 1 publisher’s sheet), including attachments, illustrations, and abstract.
  • The Editorial Board reserves the right to shorten or modify articles, after consultation with the author.
  • In the case of multi-author texts, names of all the authors should be listed, together with their affiliations, and determination of their contribution (in %) (the ghostwriting and guest authorshipfirewall) – Author's affiliation.

  • The authors of texts published in ‘Original Articles’ or ‘Materials’ sections receive one free copy. The Editorial Board does not offer any remuneration.
  • Non-commissioned materials will not be returned.
  • Liability arising from the copyright and publishing rights is on the author’s side.
  • Sending the article is tantamount to an author’s declaration of his/her copyright to the text, that the text is free from legal defects, that it has neither been published previously in whole or in part, nor submitted to another journal. It is also tantamount to author’s consent for publishing a text in the “Studies into the History of the Book and Book Collections”, as well as its distribution with neither time nor territory limits, including marketing authorisation, as well as free or remitted provision on the Internet.
  • After initial acceptance by the Editors, scientific articles are sent for review in accordance with the principles of double-blind peer review. After receiving the review, the Editors decide to accept the article for printing and informs the Author(s). See review policy.
  • The journal published in the formula Open Access, non-exclusive licence under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0).
  • The journal is owned by the University of Warsaw.

Use of Artificial Intelligence AI and Generative Artificial Intelligence GAI Tools

To maintain high publishing standards and safeguard the integrity, reliability, and transparency of scholarly publications, the Editorial Board of Z Badań nad Książką i Księgozbiorami Historycznymi has adopted the following rules on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools, in accordance with recommendations on publication ethics.

The following rules apply:

  1. Authorship
    Only a human may be identified as the author or co-author of a scholarly publication. Artificial intelligence (AI/GAI) tools may not be listed as authors or co-authors.

  2. Author Responsibility
    Authors bear full responsibility for the content of submitted manuscripts, including their factual accuracy, scholarly reliability, originality, the accuracy of cited sources and bibliographic references, and compliance with copyright law. This responsibility also applies to content created or modified using AI/GAI tools.

  3. Transparency in the Use of AI/GAI
    Authors who have used artificial intelligence or generative artificial intelligence tools in preparing a manuscript must disclose this fact and describe the scope and manner of their use.

  4. Content Verification
    Authors must independently verify all content generated using AI/GAI tools before including it in a publication.

  5. Author Declaration
    When submitting a manuscript to the journal, authors must provide a declaration concerning their use of AI/GAI tools in the submission system. If such tools were used, authors must specify their names and explain to the Editors the scope and manner in which they were applied.

ORCID

The Editorial Board encourages authors submitting articles to Z Badań nad Książką i Księgozbiorami Historycznymi to register with ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID). ORCID is an open, transparent, and portable registry of unique identifiers for scholars and researchers. It enables authors and their publications to be identified unambiguously.

Editorial Guidelines

  • Manuscripts should not exceed 40,000 characters (one publisher’s sheet), including all supplementary material, illustrations, an abstract in English of up to 1,000 characters, keywords in English and Polish, and the bibliography.

  • The Editorial Board reserves the right to shorten manuscripts and introduce changes after consulting the author.

  • For detailed guidelines on manuscript preparation, editing, and spelling, please refer to the Guidelines for Preparing Manuscripts.

  • Authors are entitled to receive one complimentary copy of the issue containing their publication.

  • The journal does not pay authors’ fees or royalties.

  • The journal does not charge any fees for accepting articles for publication.

  • Authors bear responsibility for compliance with copyright and publishing rights.

By submitting a manuscript to the Editorial Board, the author declares that they hold the economic copyright to the manuscript, that it is free from legal defects, that it has not previously been published in whole or in part, and that it is not under consideration by another journal.

Submission also constitutes the author’s royalty-free consent to the publication of the manuscript in Z Badań nad Książką i Księgozbiorami Historycznymi and to its distribution without territorial or time restrictions. This includes placing copies of the journal on the market, making print copies available for a fee, and providing free online access under a non-exclusive Creative Commons licence consistent with the current licence templates published by Creative Commons, in particular CC BY-NC 4.0 (Attribution–NonCommercial). Please refer to the author’s declaration. Authors retain full publication rights.

  • Materials published in Z Badań nad Książką i Księgozbiorami Historycznymi are protected by copyright.

  • The journal is owned by the University of Warsaw.
